Johnny Knoxville, Andy Samberg: New Stooges?
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Remakes, Comedy, Casting, Upcoming Releases,
The Farrelly Brothers (There’s Something About Mary, Shallow Hal) are still searching for the perfect Stooges. The comedic filmmakers plan to bring a big-screen version of the slapstick trio to fans ... and, they’ve been planning for a while.
The Three Stooges was originally cast with Sean Penn, Benicio Del Toro and Jim Carrey (Larry, Moe and Curly respectively), but Penn and Carrey both bowed out.
Now, the Brothers are looking toward a Jackass and an SNL vet to help round out the cast. The LA Times reports that Johnny Knoxville may come on board as Moe, while Andy Samberg will take on the role of Larry. “We like both of those guys,” Bobby Farrelly said. “And Knoxville is a real-life stooge.”
Cher will also star in the flick as the leading lady, playing Mother Superior of an orphanage where the stooges create chaos. “Cher is the coolest chick ever,” Peter Farrelly said of the casting choice.
The Three Stooges will be presented as a reboot film with three 27-minute shorts -- if production ever begins.

I Love You Phillip Morris Gets New Release Date
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Drama, Comedy, Upcoming Releases,
If you’re anything like me, you thought this day would never come—the day when I Love You Phillip Morris got an actual release date.
Although Phillip Morris was originally slated to debut in the spring, the dark comedy starring Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor faced numerous delays. Now, it appears the film about cellmates-turned-lovers may have been saved from indefinite hold.
According to Roadside Attractions, the movie with a possible marketing problem will now be released on December 3, 2010. “Jim and Ewan once again prove themselves to be among the rare group of A-list actors who take the risks, embrace them and wildly succeed,” the studio’s co-president stated.
“This is a film that everyone has been talking about, and we’re thrilled it became available again, as we had been in hot pursuit of it at Sundance and were disappointed it was one that got away.”

Jim Carrey Movie Indefinitely Delayed
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Biopics, Drama, Comedy, Distribution, Trailers, Upcoming Releases,
UPDATE: The movie has now been given a July 30 release date.
This has not been a good week for Jim Carrey.
On Tuesday, the comedian and his girlfriend of five years, Jenny McCarthy, announced their split over Twitter. Today, it’s been reported that his latest film is being indefinitely delayed.
I Love You Phillip Morris, a dark comedy co-starring Ewan McGregor as Carrey’s cellmate-turned-lover, was at one point scheduled for a March 26 debut. It was then slated for an April 30 premiere. Now, the story about real-life con man Steven Jay Russell will be lucky to get a release date at all.
Although it’s not known why the film is being held up, it’s believed Morris’ subject matter may be making distribution difficult.

Jim Carrey, Ewan McGregor Promote New Film with a Kiss
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Biopics, Drama, Comedy, Trailers, Upcoming Releases,
I always knew Ewan McGregor was appealing, but who knew he was Jim Carrey’s type?
Earlier this week, the two actors kissed it up for the cameras while in France. The I Love You Phillip Morris costars were in the country to be knighted by the National Order of Arts and Letters.
So were the two so caught up in the moment that they decided to share a smooch? Possibly—but they also have a movie to promote. In the dramedy due out March 26, Ewan and Jim play cellmates who later become lovers.
You can watch the trailer for Phillip Morris after the jump.

Box Office Breakdown: Avatar Stifled by Blizzard
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: 20th Century Fox, Disney, Lionsgate, Paramount, Sony, Warner Bros, Action, Adaptation, Adventure, Animation, Biopics, Drama, Family, Music, Remakes, Science Fiction, Sequels, Comedy, Sports, Box Office, Lists,
How big could Avatar‘s debut really been? Thanks to a blizzard, we may never know. James Cameron’s first feature in 12 years pulled in approximately $77 million this weekend, enough to win first place but slightly lower than expectations. The movie, which was produced for around $310 million, never reached its full potential due to weather conditions on the East Coast.
As it was, the movie came in behind 2007’s I Am Legend for the best December opener ever. (The Will Smith film debuted to $77.2 million.) The 3D entry also ranked sixth - behind Star Trek, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and New Moon - for domestic debuts this year.

Box Office Breakdown: Princess and Frog Crowned Winner

Disney’s latest entry might not have produced Pixar-like numbers, but it was definitely not a frog.
The Princess and the Frog, featuring the first black Disney princess, finally opened wide this weekend to the tune of $24.2 million. Despite having been available in limited release for two weeks, the 2D-film had the best premiere ever for an animated feature in the month of December.
Meawhile, Invictus - Clint Eastwood’s next possible Oscar contender - unfolded with a $8.6 million debut and a third place finish. Although the Nelson Mandela drama came in behind box office vet The Blind Side, the director’s films tend to generate more buzz (and money) as the awards seasons progress.

Box Office Breakdown: Touchdown for Blind Side

The third time was a charm for Sandra Bullock.
After two weeks of second place finishes, The Blind Side emerged from New Moon‘s shadow to take sole possession of first place. The movie, which added another $20 million to its $100+ million total, has now given Bullock her second chart topper of the year. (And, no—All About Steve is not the other film I was referring to.)
Despite several new wide release entries, the football players and the vampires strongly defended their hold on the top two spots. Brothers - starring Tobey Maguire, Jake Gyllenhaal and Natalie Portman - came in third place with only a $9.5 million take. Meanwhile, Everybody’s Fine with Robert De Niro and Drew Barrymore did a less than fine $3.8 million.
